CLINICAL

DATA

As Dunitech believe that the best way to understand the safety and performance of our devices is through clinical studies. We are always looking for updated publications that help us guide our Research and Development department on the improvement of our devices.

Zehir et al. performed a study in 2015 comparing PFNA (Synthes), InterTan (Smith and Nephew) and ODI's Distal fix, which utilizes an equivalent of the Claw system, the Talons. The authors have studied patients with AO/OTA 31-A2 and 31-A3 fractures and they have concluded the Talon System offered a very steep learning curve, lower cut-out rates when compared to PFNA and shorter operative time when compared to InterTan.

Zehir S, Şahin E, Zehir R. Comparison of clinical outcomes with three different intramedullary nailing devices in the treatment of unstable trochanteric fractures. Ulus Travma Acil Cerrahi Derg 2015, Vol. 21, No. 6.

In a retrospective study by Çamurcu et al. in 2017, the authors compared an equivalent system to Claw with conventional locked nails in Tibial fractures. The results point to significant reduction in operative time and radiation exposure when using Claw system.

Çamurcu Y, Sofu H, Issın A, Koçkara N, Genç E, Çetinkaya M. Is talon tibial intramedullary nailing clinically superior compared to conventional locked nailing? Eklem Hastalik Cerrahisi. 2017 Dec;28(3):152-7.

Bramlet has compared the biomechanical performance of the lag screw with an equivalent system to Claw fully deployed of not deployed. The author has concluded that the deployment of the Claws increases the compression by two times and the causes a 3-fold increase in torsional strength.

Bramlet D, Wheeler D. Biomechanical evaluation of a new type of hip compression screw with retractable talons. J Orthop Trauma 2003, 17:618–624.

A retrospective examination was made of tibia shaft fractures treated with Tibial Claw intramedullary nail (IMN) to evaluate the effect on the healing of the nail diameter and the distance between the fracture line and the proximal and distal fixation points of the IMN. The authors concluded that there is no effect on the fracture healing scores of the nail diameter or the distance between the proximal and distal fixation points in tibia shaft fractures treated with a tibia nail with distal retractable claws. Claw nails provide strong fixation and stable fracture healing with shorter operating time and less radiation exposure.
